Smart people look at my stuff and then think about it. They follow me for an average of 6 months as they break the code, and then, finally, they get in touch. If you're confused about comments I make that are apparently contradictory or otherwise out of alignment - you don't get it. You don't have the tools. They are offering to pay you more than the last person thought you were originally worth. I am the biggest advocate for candidates in the hiring process but I find accepting counteroffers to be unprofessional and shortsighted. If you want a raise, ask for it before you start interviewing.
