It was a simple comment of "I wish we had feature X". I thought I was being fun. I thought it would get emoji responses and we would move on. The engineers solved it. Do you know how much we pay Software Engineers!? I did not mean for them to work on this thing and solve my issue. But they wanted to make things better, and if the manager points out an issue, they felt like it should be solved. This was not a big deal, and not a ton of time was spent, but it was a good reminder for me that I am not an engineer, I am a manager. And while that title is mostly meaningless to me, it means something to others. What I say magically holds more gravity not because of the merit of the statement, because of the title I hold. By not being mindful about what I share in our public channels, I led my team to spend time on the wrong thing.
