Yawkyawk
![Artist's Notes:
Long before humans set across the sea, Australia had been home to a race of mermaids called yawkyawks, sometimes spelled out as two words, yawk yawks, or also known as likanaya. They are freshwater fish-tailed maidens whose seaweed hair floats to the surface of the water, easily mistaken for a bunch of plants. Sometimes they are tied so well with their watery dwelling, that it is as though they are one, and a bend in a river may have been referred to as the yawkyawk's elbow or a delta her tail fin, and so on.
ORIGIN:
The ancient Aboriginal people were aware of evolution and had a few related theories on where yawkyawks came from.
Some believe that yawkyawks were creatures that didn't quite finish evolving from animal to human. Some believe they were people who partially evolved back into animals after having experiences in the dreamtime, a plane of existence where all time exists simultaneously and one can commune with their ancestors.
Still others believe yawkyawks are ancient spirits that participated in the creation of all life on earth, while they are often said to be related to Ngalyod, or Rainbow Serpent creator god either as his daughters or his wives.
HOME:
Yawkyawks live in freshwater pools, streams, rivers and lakes.
MAGIC:
Yawkyawks can shape-shift into any form, but have a preference for taking that of swordfish, snakes, crocodiles and dragonflies. They can manipulate the weather for good or ill. Women who visit or bathe in their waters could magically become pregnant.
TEMPERAMENT:
Yawkyawks are mostly shy and kind-hearted spirits. At night they take the form of dragonflies, or sometimes as women, to wander around on land. If you spot one sitting at the surface of her home during the day, she'll probably jump back into the water before you have a chance to react.
They are very protective of their waters, and will warn humans if they feel their home is being over fished. If their words are not taken seriously, they may take more drastic measures to stop you, even causing your death.
Sometimes they speak to women to help guide them in dreamtime ceremonies. They have been known to marry human men on occasion, but never stick around on land for too long, eventually leaving their husbands to return to life as a yawkyawk. People who have albinism are said to have had a yawkyawk in their ancestry.](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/masonry/002/260/442/85f.jpg)

Yara-ma-yha-who
![Right, let's just get this out of the way right now.
They're Vore Goblins.
Ok? Good.
The Yara-ma-yha-who is a small, vaguely humanoid entity that lives in forests all across Australia; but it loves fig trees the most.
The Yara-ma-yha-who lies in wait for a weary traveller to rest beneath the shade of a tree, or come to it to drink tree sap in times of extreme drought. Once the victim is within reach, it pounces on them and uses suckers on their hands to suck out their blood; but only to the point they faint.
After the victim faints, the Yara-ma-yha-who distends it's jaws and mouth to swallow them whole. It can open it's mouth to easily swallow the largest problem with little effort. At this point, it will have a drink to help wash the person down and then fall asleep.
After waking up, the Yara-ma-yha-who vomits its prey out. The human is almost always alive and playing dead; there is no reason to fight back as the creature can overpower the strongest man. The yara-ma-yha-who takes five paces, then returns and pokes his victim’s sides with a stick. Then it walks away ten paces before returning to tickle the human under the arm or neck. A fifty-yard stroll is followed up by more tickling, then the yara-ma-yha-who goes behind a bush and sleeps.
This ritual is always repeated. The yara-ma-yha-who know that if they fail to carry out these actions, the spirit of the fig tree will mumble in their ears, causing them to transform into glowing tree mushrooms.
If the victim does not use this window to escape, the Yara-ma-yha-who will swallow them again and repeat the process. Each time this happens, the victim becomes a little shorter and their skin gets slightly redder.
Eventually, the victim becomes a Yara-ma-yha-who themselves.](/assets/image-covers/nsfw.png)

Mimi
![Mimis, some times spelled Mimih, or nature spirits in Aboriginal spirits that spend most of their time residing in the cracks and crevices of the Outback, as their long, spindly bodies are in danger of breaking apart in high winds.
Despite their fragility, it is said that the Mimis were the ones who taught the the ancestors of the Aboriginals how to hunt, paint, cook and pretty much every other skill needed to survive in the Australian Outback; with one of the most important being how to control fire.
Artist's description:
Original artwork acrylic on canvas was created by Nganuwaay Koolyn Koorang, renowned Australian Aboriginal artist and daughter of Mundara Koorang.
In the Dreamtime the Mimi's are healers and come with the wind. They sprinkle the dust of Alcheringa to heal plants, trees, and sprout new life into seeds. You can hear them singing in the wind and the rumble under your feet is them dancing.](/assets/image-covers/nsfw.png)

Rainbow Serpent
![That's right bois and grils!
I return to educate you uncultured savages through the medium of monster girls.
Today we will be looking at Australian Aboriginal Mythology and we are starting off with perhaps one of the most important figures, at least for the tribes based in Kimberly and Arnhem Land.
The Rainbow Serpent is the creator of human beings and the world in general. It has life-giving powers that send fertility spirits to all the watercourses, such as billabongs, rivers, creeks and lagoons as it is in control of producing rainfall.
The Rainbow Serpent is the protector of the land, its people, and the source of all life. However, the Rainbow Serpent can also be a destructive force if it is not properly respected. In times of anger or rage it causes storms and floods to act as punishment against those who disobey the laws.
In times of the floods the Rainbow Serpent swallows and consumes people and regurgitates their bones, which turn into stone. They can also enter a man and give him the gift of magical powers, or leave ‘little rainbows’, their progeny, within his body which will make him ail and die.](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/masonry/002/260/259/c9c.png)
