This is the halfway point of the film. We then cut to a flashback to the past, where baby Mario and Luigi are playing with their mom in a village. But then Mario & Luigi are kidnapped by Kamek and taken away. A stork runs into him, and he drops Mario & Luigi into New Donk City, where they meet Pauline and Stanley, and get taken into an orphanage ran by Foreman Spike's Aunt. Mario becomes well known for his parkour skills, and Luigi shows he has a knack for fixing pipes. There's a newspaper shot that shows them becoming celebrities. Mario is called a "parkour legend" and Luigi a "Master Plumber." There's even a DK cameo that shows Mario fighting young Cranky Kong. The final newspaper article is about Mario & Luigi going missing. There's a timeskip and we cut to the airship transformed with sails and wings, being loaded into a slingshot. The Bros, Stanley, Pauline, DK, Cranky, and Spike are all boarding to go to New Donk. Peach, Toad, and Toadette also board, as they wanna see what life is like in the city. Toadsworth is being left in charge. The airship takes off. Toad falls off the ship and into a lake below. After awhile, the airship starts falling apart and they crash-land in Bumpsy Plains. They stumble upon a quaint little town on the outskirts. Mario & Luigi are reunited with their parents and there's a heartfelt reunion. Quick note: Throughout the film before this, there were hints that Stanley has a crush on Pauline. 7 7/12

Mario finally makes it to Luigi, and tries to convince him to come back. Luigi says he's a menace to society and he can't let himself hurt his friends. Mario stops and starts singing a song about New Donk that they sang while they were working at the beginning of the film. Luigi doesn't join in and continues to sit by himself. But then Hammer Bros start attacking. Mario tries to fight back but he's not good enough. He calls for Luigi's help, but he just sits there. A big fight scene involving the cast plays out, but it's not good enough. A Sledge bro throws a huge hammer at Mario, but then Luigi jumps in and grabs it. Luigi says that he's scared of what he will do, but when he's with Mario, he can do anything. They start doing a bunch of attacks that are similar to Bros moves from the M&L series. They end up beating all the Koopas and driving them back to the Koopa Kingdom. Luigi's stomach growls, so Toadette pulls out a super mushroom. Luigi notes that he hates mushrooms, and that he had a purple one earlier that tasted awful. Peach says that the purple mushrooms are poisonous, and we find out that that's why he has been having the hallucinations. 6 We cut to Toad Town where Toad gives Luigi a refreshing herb, turning him back to normal. They all have a big goodbye party, since Mario & Co are going back to New Donk. Foreman Spike reappears to make some funny remarks (he's been on the airship the whole movie). DK asks Cranky if they should tell them that the airship doesn't have any gas, and Cranky says that they'll find out soon enough. 6/19

She says Luigi needs to leave. Stanley and Pauline try to argue that he should stay and that something is wrong, but Luigi starts seeing everyone as a talking warp pipe and tries to jump into them, forcing them to flee. Luigi comes to his senses and out of fear of what he'll do, runs away. He ends up in Koopa territory, where he feels like he won't be able to hurt anyone. The koopas leave him alone as they remember what he did to the Boom Booms and fear his power. Mario & Co decide that maybe they need to go home to New Donk after all. What Luigi was going through was too much, and they all felt a bit homesick anyway. They don't know how they can get home without reading the warp Zone, but then they notice an airship in the distance. They jump and shout, hoping to catch its attention. Mario rushes to go get Luigi and tell him they can go home. The airship turns and lands in the Plains. Out pops Cranky and DK who think the Mushroom Kingdom is much better than Dry Dry Desert. Stanley and Pauline realize that Mario is heading into Koopa Territory and that they need to help him. DK, Cranky, Peach, Toadette, and Toad all go to help. 5

They wake up in Toad Town where a bunch of Toads throw a huge party. Turns out Peach kidnapped them in the night and brought them up to Toad Town. She was gonna tell them about Toad Town the night before, but they ran away before she could tell them about it. She decided to do them "a favor" and surprise them. Mario & Co are pretty flustered and wanna know where they are. Peach holds out her hand and says "Welcome to thr Mushroom Kingdom!" They all gasp as they see a beautiful landscape reminiscent of the mural from the beginning lies before them. Mario gets extremely excited and starts running through the fields saying "Wahoo!" and such. Luigi gets excited and follows him, realizing how amazing the feeling of adventure really is. They go back to Toad Town for the party and start having a blast. Luigi starts seeing pipes in the air and wants to enter them, thinking they'll take him home. He does a bunch of fancy jumps, including his trademark Super Jump. Everyone is going wild, but then Luigi jumps out and toward a trampoline that will surely let him reach the pipe. He lands and jumps as hard as he can, only to be interrupted by a scream, as the pipe disappears. Mario is knocked out and falls to the ground unconscious. There was no trampoline. It was Mario. The party grinds to a halt and Peach is flabbergasted. 4

Toad is afraid of Luigi, but Mario comes out and introduces himself. Peach gets the idea that they can stay and help drive the Koopas away, and announces a dance party. Luigi gets fed up and runs back through the cave to where they started. He just wants to go home. He doesn't want to fight, and he misses his job. A few scenes play out where Luigi tries various methods to try to reach the warp pipe. In one attempt, he actually makes it, but the pipe is top slippery and he falls right back out. Everyone is hungry, so they est a Super Mushroom. They invite Luigi but he says "that's alright, I've got mushrooms over here." He picks up a Poison Mushroom and eats it. Commenting that it tastes weird and that he hates mushrooms. We cut to Dry Dry Desert, where the airship is parked, and DK and Cranky stand in a sandstorm in silence. Eventually DK says "This is awful," and the scene ends. Mario, Pauline, and Stanley set up camp and have a good time. Luigi eventually comes around and hangs out with Mario and Co, admiring the beautiful crystals in the ceiling. They fall asleep and Luigi has a dream that he's surrounded by warp pipes. Luigi sees a staircase leading to a big shiny pipe and runs toward it. When he takes the first step onto it, the background immediately cuts to the cave with Mario screaming. Luigi is not standing on a step, but on Mario's nose. Luigi apologizes and they go back to sleep. 3

There they are caught by Koopa Troopas and Sidesteppers and knocked out. They wake up inside crates and it is revealed to that they have been loaded up on an airship, traveling underground through a massive warp pipe. Cranky and DK peak through their air holes and see Spike, who says he heard they're being taken to the Koopa Kingdom. DK and Cranky bust out and make their way to the pilots. They knock them out and start turning the ship around and find the warp pipe to Dry Dry Desert. As the Airship turns, Mario, Luigi, Stanley, and Pauline's crates fly off the edge of the airship and end up in a Mushroom Kingdom cave. They wake up and they all argue and fight. Stanley stops them becsuse he hears music. They travel through the cave and find an underground nightclub in a sewer, where a huge dance party is going on. Toadette is the DJ, and Peach is singing. Toadette in this film is surprisingly calm, and even a bit sarcastic. Peach is very bubbly. As Mario & Co watch, some of Bowser's minions crash the party. Everyone scrambles but Toad (THE Toad) is left out in the open, where some Boom Booms arrive to kidnap him. Mario wants to jump in and help, but Luigi stops him worrying that they would beat them up too. Then Pauline notices there's a big Scuttlebug on his back, causing Luigi to fly into a screaming frenzy, running out and accidentally beating up the Boom Booms, and scaring the other minions away. 2
