Even disregarding the presence of "90's Attitude," we can tel quite a bit about the Game Boy Color in the USA circa early 1999 from this advertisement. Although the short-lived handheld would eventually accumulate a library of over 400 games in North America, pickings were not especially generous in its early days. Many of the GBC's best games were titles that originated on older hardware (Wario Land II, Link's Awakening, Game & Watch Gallery, and Tetris).

Meanwhile, Nintendo was going through a weird phase where they were publishing a bunch of licensed games. Quest for Camelot. Highlights include Disney licenses, Hamtaro, and an entire series of baseball games starring Ken Griffey Jr (each of those is a story for another day).

Things picked up as 1999 continued, but the Game Boy Color wouldn't really dominate in the USA until 2000. This was the year when nearly half of the American GBC library (200 out of about 450 games) was released, most notably Pokemon Gold/Silver.
