Changed for clarity's sake
![Supper Mario Broth @Mario BrothBlog New findings have revealed that an unused object from Super Mario 64, which has for decades been presumed to be a Yoshi egg, was actually Hoot the Owl's egg instead. It is possible that it was removed to not confuse or disappoint players who expected the egg to contain Yoshi. M In the data of Super Mario 64, an unused sprite of an egg that looks like a Yoshi egg can be found. It was discovered shortly after the game's release and has, for decades, been assumed to be related to Yoshi's appearance on the roof upon collecting all 120 stars (e.g. that he was planned to hatch from it). However, newly surfaced development files reveal it was actually meant to be Hoot the Owl's egg instead. The egg is called "bird_egg", where "bird_" is the prefix used for all Hoot-related code; in addition, a deleted "bird_egg" object was found next to Hoot's files in the data. It is possible that the egg was removed due to it being either confusing or disappointing for players to approach what clearly appears to be a Yoshi egg just to have something that is not Yoshi hatch from it. It is posssible to die to Dorrie
![Supper Mario Broth @MarioBrothBlog x8 A common Super Mario 64 urban legend is that it is possible for Dorrie to eat Mario, based on an in-game sign saying "Don't become his lunch". Imagine if they'd just left the star there
![Supper Mario Broth @Mario BrothBlog The secret alcove in Whomp's Fortress containing a 1- Up Mushroom is one of the best-hidden secrets in Super Mario 64. Development files show that the alcove was meant to contain a Power Star at some point, which would have been extremely hard to find if it was kept in. The hidden 1-Up Mushroom in Whomp's Fortress is one of the best-hidden secrets in Super Mario 64. This wall of the tower on top of the fortress appears completely ordinary and has no visual indication of hiding anything. ⠀ However, punching the wall reveals a hidden alcove containing a 1-Up Mushroom. This is not alluded to anywhere in the game and can only be discovered by punching random walls. 00 Development files for the game reveal that at some point in development, a Power Star was inside the alcove. If this had been kept in the finished game, it would have likely been the hardest to find Power Star in the game.
