After 25 years, the long-running PBS series Arthur is coming to an end. Earlier this week, show developer Kathy Waugh broke the news in an interview on the Finding DW podcast with Jason Szwimmer.

"Arthur is no longer in production. We had our wrap party two years ago,” she said. “I think [PBS] made a mistake, and I think Arthur should come back and I know I’m not alone in thinking they made a mistake. I don’t know if it was a ratings issue or if it felt like it needed to be retired. To me, it felt evergreen, like it was never going to end but it did end, we finished the last episode [of] Season 25 two years ago."

Arthur was one of the most loved (and memed) shows for millennial audiences, imparting important life lessons and plenty of memorable images that would help sustain the show in popular culture through the 2000s and 2010s. Among the many notable memes from Arthur, some of the most popular include Arthur's Fist, Just Go On The Internet And Tell Lies, The Ass Was Fat, and That Sign Won't Stop Me Because I Can't Read.

News or Arthur's cancelation led to bittersweet tributes for the show, as many fondly remembered the show from their childhood and seemed to agree with Waugh's assessment that they felt the show was "evergreen." Most expressed their feeling with a familiar image.

Even though the core audience for Arthur memes outgrew the show long ago, there is no doubt that Arthur will be missed.
