Netflix hasn't had their fill of The Witcher just yet. Following the success of their live-action adaptation of the book and video game series, Netflix announced a prequel spinoff earlier today: The Witch: Blood Origin.

According to a tweet from the company, Blood Origin takes place "1200 years before Geralt of Rivia," exploring how "the first Witcher came to be."

The success of the first Witcher series already led to another spinoff: The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, an anime based on the franchise, which Netflix announced in January. However, the anime is likely to be the only Witcher-related content to hit the streamer anytime soon.

Days ago, the Witcher fansite Redanian Intelligence reported that Witcher season two would resume shooting on August 17th, 2020, but won't complete until February 2021. This shooting schedule puts the release of season two sometimes around August 2021, and that's assuming there are no more delays as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Being that it is a spinoff set before Geralt, it seems unlikely to involve star Henry Cavill, which is a bummer for those who primarily watch for his deadpan swearing. Either way, fans are going be waiting a while for new Witcher content. So in the meantime, please enjoy that video of Cavill putting together his gaming PC.
