While speaking at an event in Nevada on Wednesday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis brought up purportedly leaked footage of Disney executives in his ongoing political battle against the company. During his speech, he commented how older cartoons were safer for kids and that "when we were young, you could watch cartoons without having to worry."

This quote was picked up as a key takeaway by some critics and prompted Twitter users to post examples from older cartoons in which the morals and values that Ron DeSantis discussed were not being upheld, with Bugs Bunny being the primary example.

While there were plenty of examples of Bugs in Looney Tunes cartoons, because of his birth year being 1978, some argued DeSantis may not have been exposed to classic Looney Tunes as much, with He-Man, ThunderCats and G.I. Joe being the main shows on at that time. As noted by others, however, the 1980s were filled with plenty of other examples, making DeSantis's point moot.
"Cartoons are getting so gay" um excuse me, the 80s had Rainbow Brite riding a delightful pride horse and her sidekick's name was Twink. pic.twitter.com/DSCzAB3X8M
