South Park Creators Want To Buy Casa Bonita Restaurant And Treat It Right
Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the duo behind the long-running animated series South Park, told The Hollywood Reporter that they are trying to buy the last remaining Casa Bonita, a Mexican restaurant in Lakewood, Arizona that was founded in 1968. The restaurant has featured a number of times in the animated series, most notably in the 2003 episode titled "Casa Bonita," and was a beloved childhood eatery for the pair.
In April, Casa Bonita filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Arizona, making the restaurant's future rocky. A possible sale was recently lined up, but it's been stuck in limbo according to Parker. A recent report from KDVR even came forward claiming the restaurant is almost ready to open again following a few health inspections. Still, that's not stopping the duo from trying everything they can to work out a deal.
When talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Parker highlights how they're going to change the restaurant by making "really awesome food" and treating it right, saying he feels the restaurant was being "neglected even before COVID." He doesn't mention if they're going to incorporate any South Park nods if the deal does go through, but chances seem likely.
