The Mysterious Monolith In Utah Wasn't Removed By Aliens But By Four Dudes With Wheelbarrows
The bizarre monolith in Utah captivated the world for ten days before vanishing as mysteriously as it appeared. Was its removal related to the other monolith found in Romania a week later? Or was it taken by the same aliens that put it there in the first place?
While many mysteries of the world's monolith epidemic remain unsolved, we at least know who removed the one in Utah. It was… four dudes.
Instagram user rossbernards happened to be visiting the monolith to get a few sci-fi tourist photos when he reports four men showed up, pushed it over, and carried it away.
"4 guys rounded the corner and 2 of them walked forward," he wrote. "They gave a couple of pushes on the monolith and one of them said 'You better have got your pictures.' He then gave it a big push, and it went over, leaning to one side."
"The other guy with him at the monolith then said 'this is why you don’t leave trash in the desert,'" he continued. "Then all four of them came up and pushed it almost to the ground on one side, before they decided push it back the other when it then popped out and landed on the ground with a loud bang. They quickly broke it apart and as they were carrying to the wheelbarrow that they had brought one of them looked back at us all and said 'Leave no trace.'"
In Bernards' view, the men were right to dismantle the sculpture. "We could literally see people trying to approach it from every direction to try and reach it, permanently altering the untouched landscape. Mother Nature is an artist, it’s best to leave the art in the wild to her."
The New York Times reported that stuntman Andy L. Lewis took credit for removing the monolith on Facebook. Sylvan Christensen, another person who took credit for removing the monolith, told the Times he and his friends wanted to remove the sculpture to preserve the environment around it. "This land wasn’t physically prepared for the population shift," they wrote.
So that's one mystery solved. Still, there are no leads on who put the monolith there in the first place, nor its counterpart in Romania, and for what purpose.
