TikTokers, Twitter Users, And New Yorkers Horrified At A 16-person, $1,800 Rent-per-person 'Entrepreneur House' In New York City

It's no secret that rent in New York City is too damn high; the median rent in NYC is around $1,480/mo and if a New Yorker is making less than six figures in the Big Apple, it's not uncommon that they'll spend a third of their income just for the privilege of living there. So when a TikToker exposed his living situation of paying $1,800/mo to be one of 16 people in a so-called "entrepreneur house," it scandalized TikTokers, Twitter users, and New Yorkers' sense of good real estate judgment.
The TikTok from user @willyhopps starts ominously: he says he has just moved into a New York City "mansion" with "fifteen other entrepreneurs" that he "met online." Throughout the video, a "bed counter" chillingly ticks up as viewers get a tour through the crowded, messy space. The first bed shown is in a literal closet on the first floor.

Further details made the living situation all the more horrifying to viewers: the "entrepreneurs" installed a security camera in the kitchen to deal with "kitchen cleanliness." Couples' beds are shown in three-people spaces split by makeshift dividers. Another person uses a stepladder to access their bed, described as a "4-foot space" between a closet and a ceiling. "A wonderful little spot that we 'entrepreneured,'" says the narrator. Finally, there is a space called the "movie theater" that was converted to a three-person bedroom.
The video horrified most people who saw it, causing @willyhopps to make his TikTok private for a time and delete the video from there altogether. Many noted the existentially terrifying details of the house, such as Camila's unseen room. Others were amused at the TikTok backlash the video generated.
“Camila lives here” … this is the part of the story that most intrigues me. The fear in his voice, the fact that she has a room to herself, and that he didn’t open the door tells me something cataclysmic occurred at some point before the video. I need that story. pic.twitter.com/prF67lxu0y

Many saw the video as emblematic of the ridiculousness of the Grindset, or "hustle culture."

Just know, if you ever want to move to New York City and are fortunate enough to be able to afford $1,800/mo in rent, there are several nice one-bedroom apartments on the market from which you can hustle and grind all you want without having to sleep in a literal closet.
