Twitter / X Announces It's Hiding Quote-Retweet Numbers, Presumably Killing The Ratio
It appears Elon Musk is continuing the grand Twitter tradition of implementing UI changes that few ask for and even fewer seem to like, as the site has hidden quote-retweet statistics from beneath posts.
To know how many quote-retweets a tweet received, one must now click through a tweet to find its "post engagement" statistics.
Quote-retweets have long been a quick way to tell if a tweet is controversial, as a high quote-tweet to retweet ratio would generally indicate that a tweet had been poorly received. The number of replies to a tweet now appears under it in place of the number of quote-retweets (shown below).
With no explanation given from Twitter / X for the change, users were forced to speculate about the reason, and given Musk's capricious behavior on the website, many guessed that Musk was tired of seeing himself get ratioed.
With quote-tweets now hidden, it appears the rule of The Ratio will return to its original incarnation, which stated that if the number of replies greatly outnumbered the number of retweets and likes, "you done messed up."
