Another day on Elon Musk's Twitter, another controversy.

This time, the beleaguered CEO of Twitter, Tesla and SpaceX drew attention to himself by tweeting a meme showing a strawman decked with vaccine needles, masks and symbols of left-wing causes telling a Yes Chad holding an American flag that he's "brainwashed." The implication seems to be that those who listen to COVID-19 health guidelines, watch the news and use social media are the real "brainwashed" ones next to the humble American patriot.

The meme seems in line with Elon's recent adoption of right-wing talking points, such as his distaste of Dr. Fauci and pronouns, as on first glance, the strawman is decked with many left-wing signifiers like the Communism hammer and sickle, a Black Lives Matter pin, and a women's rights logo. However, eagle-eyed viewers will also notice that the strawman has the Fox News logo tattooed on his wrist, raising the question of what sort of person would have five vaccine needles, a Black lives matter pin, the Communist hammer and sickle and the Fox News logo on their person.

While scholars will have to work to parse the meaning of Musk's meme, it was Musk's ensuing replies that drew the most scrutiny. One Twitter user by the name of @ElGrecoSF, who has 440 followers at the time of writing, responded to the meme with some common criticisms of Musk. "Maybe not, but you've got the impulse control of a toddler," he wrote. "I really hope you've got some secret plan, but as it stands now, you paid the most ever to be the biggest internet troll."

As far as insults lobbied at Musk in his replies go, this is one of the tamest, but Musk apparently couldn't handle it and replied, "You have tiny testicles!"

Many found it in poor taste that one of the world's richest men, 51 years old, would respond to what is, for all intents and purposes, a "rando" on Twitter with such a grade-school-level insult, particularly when his company Tesla is bleeding stock market value. In the past week, the value of Tesla stock has fallen to $110, a 73% drop from its peak this year.

At this rate, Tesla stock could fall under $100 by year's end. It would take some further souring on the stock that would likely come in the form of another Musk controversy, but even though there are only three days left in the year, followers of the Musk saga know that if any man can make his company's stock price fall 10 dollars in three days, it's Elon.
