The WGA strike is nearing an end after five months, portending the end of an entertainment industry strike that also includes the actors' guild, SAG-AFTRA.

WGA announced tentative agreement reached.

The strike continues as the Writer's Guild of America stands in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA, but the group will no longer picket.

The terms of WGA's agreement with AMPTP, which are yet to be ratified, are not yet known, but it is said to be a three-year deal. Optimistic reads of the announcement forecast that writers could be back to work "within days" and that the WGA agreement suggests SAG-AFTRA could have an agreement soon.

"We can say, with great pride, that this deal is exceptional — with meaningful gains and protections for writers in every sector of the membership," the WGA said in its statement.

While many online were thrilled that writers had apparently made meaningful gains and that Hollywood could soon return to work, the news wasn't met without any jokes. The news coincided with an announced reboot of The Office, and jokes about Hollywood quickly getting back to its old ways of mining nostalgia were rampant.

The Office reboot and the writer's strike. Writer's Strike ends, back to The Office joke.

If the strike ends, it would obviously be a boon for the entertainment industry, which has been tanking money as several films and television shows have been delayed by the joint strike.

Social media hopes that as a result of the strike, the quality of entertainment will improve as well.
