If you notice, they do the red-nose thing for Bat Girl. Now, I'm no industry expert, but my hypothesis is that the hacks behind deciding what art gets put down for books probably looked at Tumblr and thought 'hey, if we make our comics look like art popular on this website, then we'll be rolling in female readership'!
