He's not directly at fault, but he failed to address the problem at its root, instead playing it safe by saying both sides were at fault. Either he has no clue how serious the issue of bigotry is, or he's afraid of alienating the white supremacists who supported him during his election.

Situations like this make me realize how empty "I hate to say I told you so" can make you feel.
