"Thank you, Dany" - Jon, S7 E6 Jon calls Daenerys "Dany" as an attempt by the writers to show that he cares for and loves her. But it has way more messed up implications! There is only one other phonetical "Dany" in the whole ASOIAF universe. Danny Flint There is a "sad and pretty" song called "Brave Danny Flint". It tells the story of a girl called Danny Flint who wanted to be a hero and so pretended to be a boy so she could join the Night's CHARACTER O ISBJÖRG DEVIANTART OM ART O ZEPHYRHANT DEVIANTART.cOM Watch. When she is discovered to be a girl, she is r---- and murdered by her by her black brothers of the Watch. Art by zephyrante, found in A Wiki of Ice and Fire As a former Black Brother, Jon would certainly know this story. In the books, he even mentions it. In Episode 6 of Season 7, Daenerys heroically comes to the wall to help the Night's Watch and save Jon. If you want to go deeper, you could say she takes on the masculine role of the active hero (at least masculine in the Westeros sense of gender roles) Immediately after this, Jon starts to refer to Daenerys as Dany, evoking the name of Danny Flint. This is portrayed as romantic, and it is clear that he is attracted to her. But a Black Brother evoking the name of a woman who was r---- and murdered by Black Bothers after trying to be a hero, when talking to a heroic woman who he is attracted to and who has just come to aid the Night's Watch at the wall, is pretty f----- up. Especially since Jon later goes on to have sex with her and then murder her. Just another way D&D unintentionally f----- up the story. It would have been interesting if it was on purpose and meant something, but come on, D&D absolutely were not thinking of this implication.
