Problem with this argument is that when people ask for "Accuracy" they mean "Verisimilitude".
If a medieval european setting suddenly adds green skin aliens, then people will call that out despite the setting having dragons and manticores running about.
There is also the matter of internal consistency. I can accept that an author or current owner of an IP has complete creative control to stick or disregard internal consistency to change or add in all kinds of things that break a sense of verisimilitude born of internal consistency. But i sure as hell can call it out as i see it.
Just because the author is god, doesn't mean he can make any change he wants to an established narrative. At least, not without seeming like a hack. And the explanation for the change has to be internally consistent and not stupid.
