Without loans, prices probably would go down somewhat, but it would also mean that people who don't just have parents that can pay for it outright would be at a serious disadvantage, and would really only be able to get in by competing for scholarships.

A lot of jobs that don't technically "need" a degree, still list it in the requirements and any application without it get thrown in the bin without second thought.
