Exaggerated for fun, as you probably know the series is set after the extinction of humanity, although the salmonid threat is pretty much an annoyance, at least lore-wise, there isn't really much indication that things are getting bad, outside of the destruction attempts from the villains in octoexpansion and the third game, which are stopped.
