Rosters can and will help hens raise manage their eggs, but I've never heard of them actually sit over the eggs themselves.

It might be possible to cultivate the carrots, but I don't think the pears or watermelon will giver returns any time soon, and the other stuff doesn't appear to have seeds or roots.

I would choose the boat on the left. It contains what is likely a minimum of 10 times the calories in the right boat. I could preserve some of the meat by smoking and drying it, or by making pemican with the bacon fat. Assuming the thing in the back of vegetable boat is water, although the container would be useful to have, if the island doesn't have available potable water, we're going to be dead long before we have time to worry about food, and that container is too small.
