r r/badroommates • 4 days ago Diary_free New roommate's grandma comes to stay with us every week Serious I don't know what I should feel about this. My new roommate who moved in today because she had a fight with her other roommate from the other room (was told that her roommate keeps stealing her food). She and her granny (who has stayed with her for a few days in her old room already) straight up told me that her grandma will be visiting her very often and she will be staying with us during the visit. Our room is pretty small 3x3 square meters with a bunk bed.Her grandma also said that she used to sleep with my new roommate in the the bottom bed but since now that my roommate has to sleep in the top bed she will just have to sleep on the floor. I was like "Huh? Okay?". I don't know what to say about this because it's fine for them to do that when my new roommate stayed in her old room so I can't say no at all. How am I supposed to study till late night? How am I supposed to feel relaxed/comfortable and not having to walk on eggshells? Edit: I just called the rd and they said that visitor is allowed to stay for 2-3 days a week. I'm punching the air rn. about privacy Edit2: like I said in the comments, people in my country are so empathetic that they(ra/rd) give zero or boundaries as long as granny is happy being with her granddaughter, rd even sounds confused when I asked if visitor is allow to stay or not (indicating that they see nothing wrong with her staying). Currently there isn't a single room available in the school dorm so there is nothing I can do besides punching the air. TL;DR: New roommate's grandma plans to frequently stay in our dorm room and sleep on the floor. RD allows it, and no other dorm rooms are available. I'm stuck and uncomfortable.

r/badroommates • 6 days ago sureshowedme I almost called the cops on my roommate last night My roommate, who besides just being a slob, is a pretty okay person kind of annoying, but that's why I stay in my room to myself 95% of the time. They decided that it was a good idea to throw an adult temper tantrum over the fact they didn't want to clean a plate so they could have something to eat on. I gave them alternative ideas because since we didn't need the paper plates we had before, I put them away somewhere. He decided to start screaming and broke the plates (that I bought, mind you). I struggle with severe PTSD and anxiety due to abusive situations with men previously. so my heart started POUNDING. I messaged my mom and asked if I should call the police, I'm the only one on the lease. She luckily talked me down. I want to even the score and break something of theirs, but due to my strong belief in karma, I won't, and that's the ONLY reason. So I've started devising a plan because if I'm being honest at this point, the only reason they're here is to help with bills. I've been applying to get a second (technically third) job so I can afford this place on my own. I calculated the budget and how much I'd have to make hourly. I'm so prepped just waiting to hear back about an interview. I take my safety very seriously, and if I don't feel safe in my own home, then that's a problem.

There's this person who would literally cook then eat then sit in the kitchen for hours and hours, and it makes me slightly uncomfortable. They're clean and tidy however super quiet, sometimes if I say hi they would sit there and not say hi back, and it makes things a little awkward when I'm cooking cuz I feel like they're just sitting there watching me. Besides moving out or just keeping the cookware in my room, has anyone dealt with something similar and could share some other solutions? Storage space isn't even an issue. We each cook for ourselves. My grown man roommate (he's 37) here in NYC hardly even knows how to cook (he uses the air fryer 99% of the time), but he's decided to start cooking more. I'm happy for him about it, but he keeps insisting on sharing things like cooking oil, seasonings - and now cookware. Here's the thing. I buy premium stuff. It makes me feel good and my dishes are better than ever for it. So I buy occasionally pricey oils and seasonings that I told him are expensive - and he insists I buy cheaper ones? Like...bro, if you want cheap seasoning for your food, then you buy them? You wanna share socks, too? I recently bought a carbon steel wok and a copper pan as personal Christmas gifts to myself to inspire my cooking this year. They're gorgeous. I store them on a shelf literally right under my designated bookshelf. And he told me, "I could use one of those. We could've shared one." No, he does not need a wok. I eat fried rice / stir fry often; he eats pasta and fried chicken. And if he did want a wok, there's three feet of empty space by his shelves. I literally can't think of any other reason besides him wishing he could've bought expensive cookware too. But he has a decent job. If he can afford $300/month on weed, he can buy some nice cookware. Anyways, thanks for any advice y'all. Had to vent lol.
