Twilight- The most curious of the group. Always eager to learn, but can get a bit OCD about her studies.
Applejack- A hard working girl who loves her family and doesn't like to lie. Can be a bit arrogant at times.
Rainbow Dash- The tomboyish girl, determined to always be the best, but never leave anyone hanging.
Rarity- The most vain of the group, but also the most generous and and incredibly nice.
Fluttershy- The one who's shy about helping out her friends, but always willing to do so. Very kind.
Pinkie Pie- The hyperactive one. Loves to laugh and make others laugh along with her.
Spike- Doesn't really fit in with the rest of the group, but always means well when offering help.

There. The Mane Six and Spike, described without mentioning any sort of role, appearance, or job. Problem?
