I think the only reason there hasn't been a Hoenn remake is because of the trade. I mean, the reason for the remakes was for players to get certain pokemons that they couldn't trade to their new games. And with the backwards campacity of the DS, you could get your Pokemon from the Gen 3 games. And with the machine you get access at the end of the Gen 5 games, you can get your Pokemon from the Gen 4 games.
