Perhaps this is a way of the animators (who may have not liked the ascension to Alicorn-hood by Purple Smart) poking fun at Hasbro Executive meddling. Hasbro deemed the Alicorn to be something special and important, thus making them stacks 'o cash. The animators take their revenge by making the concept of the alicorn a laughing background joke that the Bronies can see and interpret.
