It's clearly a style choice to have them be a sorta of amazonian kind of race. Hell, Jasper looks like she literally came from an island that has "Snu-Snu". Can they introduce more masculine gems later on? Sure, but that's not a guarantee, just like it's not necessary. Hell, when have the gems ever pointed out that Steven's a male-gem? Never. Because it's not relevant to anything.

Granted, I'd like the idea that the "male" gems are more like servants to the other gems. Weaker compared to the others and practically slave labor.
