About

Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing is a 3D racing game developed in 2003 by the video game company Stellar Stone. The game is notorious and frequently mocked for its broken and unfinished game play, its lack of physics, and its engrish catchphrase, "YOU'RE WINNER !"

History

Big Rigs Over The Road Racing was developed by the California based video game development company Stellar Stone, and released on November 20th, 2003.[1] The game was originally intended to be released as a part of Midnight Race Club: Supercharged, but both games were rushed to release during the pre-alpha stage, leading to the game's poor quality. The game was intended to be a racing game wherein a player controls a truck and has to outrun local police in racing maps, but a bevy of problems plagued the release. These included: AI trucks not moving during races; a later patch where the AI would race but stop before the finish line, making it impossible to lose; a lack of collision detection, allowing players to drive through obstacles and leave levels altogether; and general visual and software bugs.

Reception

The game was panned as one of the worst video games of all time. In 2004, Gamespot reviewer Alex Navarro published a review of the game, discussing its broken gameplay and poor design. The review was later reuploaded to Youtube on March 27th, 2012 by ClassicGamespotRevs, where it gained over 90,000 views in four years (shown below, left). On December 24th, 2010, YouTube user Cr1tikaL uploaded a game-play and commentary video of Big Rigs, which has since gained over 1 million views in six years (shown below, right).

Online Presence

In 2011, the sarcastic website "You're Winner" was created for ironic Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing fans and others who ironically play low-quality video games.[2] On March 19th, 2014, internet video game reviewer The Angry Video Game Nerd uploaded a review of Big Rigs to YouTube discussing it's poor design and lack of gameplay (shown below, left). The video has since gained over 4 million views in two years. The Angry Video Game Nerd also later uploaded a fake commercial taken from the review three days later, which has since gained over 500 thousand views (shown below, right).

Additionally, the game is frequently posted about online in YouTube videos that both talk about how funny it is and reference it as one of the worst games of all time. On August 5th, 2007, YouTuber Jan Doedel posted a gameplay video that gained over 1 million views (shown below, left), and on November 20th, 2009, YouTuber ONE1ONEONEONEONE1ONE uploaded a glitch of the game where they achieved billions of MPH, gaining over 227,000 views (shown below, right).

YOU'RE WINNER !

"YOU'RE WINNER !" refers to a typo displayed on the game's winning screen in which the game shows a three-handled trophy with the catchprhase "YOU'RE WINNER !". The term is often used as an alternative to the phrase "a winner is you.".
