What Is The 'Gomer Gimpson' Meme? The Viral Twitter Memes Explained By Their Creators
The Simpsons is without a doubt one of the most memed shows of all time, and this month, the Simpson family's patriarch, Homer, became the subject of a bizarre meme on Twitter.
The meme, which renames Homer Simpson to "Gomer Gimpson" and sloppily applies him to anything and everything, is a massive hit, with a gimmick page dedicated to the account gaining nearly 30,000 followers in under a month.
But what exactly is the "Gomer" meme, why is it so popular and who are the mad geniuses behind the format? Here's what you need to know from the moderators of @gomergimpson themselves.

What Is The 'Gomer Gimpson' Meme?
The Gomer memes got their start in late January 2025 when Twitter / X user @joybuzz3r, one of the mods for @GomerGimpson, posted a meme showing a boy being overtaken by a yellow blob that turns him into Homer Simpson.
From there, @blahaj__blast, another mod, posted a meme showing Homer's face crudely pasted into a Wojak video, captioned, "Day in the life of a Gomer," thus coining the name "Gomer" for this bizarro version of Homer Simpson.
The Gomer meme is largely represented through an image of Homer Simpson's smiling face blended into a yellow background. This is the default image used to create all of the Gomer memes.
"It’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever made. [The meme is] fueled by the the community," @joybuzz3r wrote. Speaking more on the origins of the meme, she explained that it all started because of a Left 4 Dead 2 mod.
"I was playing Left 4 Dead 2 with my friends Jade (@parlostuff) and Run (@guythatlikescats). Run had a mod that turned the charger into Homer in a car. It led to the three of us looking into all the mods and finding a lot of Simpsons ones, which led to us all doing really bad Homer Simpson impressions. Eventually, we switched to Stardew Valley and started a Simpsons playthrough to continue the joke. I wanted us to use profile pictures of each of our characters, so I looked up “Homer Simpson” and cycled through a few profile pictures until I found the original image [of Homer blending into the yellow background]. It kind of went nowhere […] until I started sending it in a group chat with [@GomerGimpson mods] Willow and Mushroom.
"I like sending memes, but don’t always have a lot, so I will start sending the same picture until it becomes an inside joke, which happened with the original image, which I then named Gomer. Willow thought it was hilarious and started posting it on Twitter, which inspired me to create the @GomerGimpson account. I later added Willow and Mushroom to the account as Willow inspired me to make the account. I added Mushroom because at the time I was the only person who could make Gomer videos and I needed another person to help run it. The rest is gistory."
How Is 'Gomer Gimpson' Used In Memes?
The Gomer Gimpson meme is simple and absurd at its core. Each meme features the Gomer Gimpson base image of Homer's face blended into a yellow background applied liberally (and shoddily) to other memes, images and subjects, with nothing being off limits. On the creative process, blahaj__blast said:
"I make [the memes] on my phone with Ibis Paint and CapCut. With Ibis I just 'magic wand' random parts of an image out and then put Gomer in the blank space, or I’ll take a transparent PNG of just the face and slap it over an image. When I make Gomer edits in CapCut, I tend to just put the Gomer image over an impactful scene, add the “Gomer!” sound effect and then chroma key the background yellow."
The Gomer video edits are largely handled by mod @MushroomMn0327, whose process is similarly simple. They told us, "For the video edits I use chromakey on CapCut and for the image edits, I also use Ibis Paint X. I use the magic wand tool to select the parts of the image I want turned into Gomer and once I have it all selected, I just add the Gomer image! It's surprisingly simple."
The memes are so simple to create and so infectious, that much of the effort has shifted onto fans of the format. @Blahaj__blast told us, "The account started with original memes and I still make original stuff […] but recently the majority of posts have been sent in by fans." Joybuzz3r adds, "I don’t think anybody cares [that they're mostly fan submissions] and I am very lazy."
How Did The 'Gomer Gimpson' Meme Get So Popular?
The Gomer Gimpson meme may not seem all that deep, but it's gained over 28,000 followers in roughly a month of being created, which is no small feat for an unverified Twitter account. When asked about the page's sudden growth, the mods had a variety of responses.
"Honestly speaking I was SHOCKED [about its growth] and it’s genuinely kinda scary how fast the account grew," @Blahaj__blast wrote. "I didn’t expect it [to grow] that fast and it was crazy, but also, Blahaj__blast had said before the account existed that she would force the meme no matter what, so I'm not shocked it went viral," Joybuzz3r said.
Blahaj__blast and Mushroom point to a specific post that really helped the page blow up fast. About the post, Blahaj told us:
"I made a tweet poll that asked, “What should Gomer eat?” and the poll choices were “donuts” and “donuts.” I kept reposting it until the tweet ended up having 0 votes so I could make a "#starving" joke like the Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Twitter account. The tweet blew up overnight, it now has over 12k likes and it snowballed the success of the account, I believe, especially since we had a lot of other images and videos already posted before.
"I also made a bunch of album cover edits which got a bunch of reach not only in English speaking communities, but all over the world, especially Latin America. I’ve seen Gomer memes from over there with 12,000 likes before I even saw it. He’s an icon I guess."
What Is The Future Of The 'Gomer Gimpson' Meme?
The Gomer Gimpson meme is almost exclusively present on Twitter, where tons of versions are still being posted as the page continues to grow in followers.
While the moderators are enjoying the success of the meme, they don't have any big plans to keep expanding the format past Twitter and Bluesky, where they also post their creations. Thankfully, the fans are expanding the meme for them.
Mushroom told us, "While we probably won't expand any further than Bluesky, a few people who have made Gomer edits (videos to be more exact) have uploaded them to YouTube. I've also been sent pictures of people posting Gomer on TikTok, so I think the fans of the meme are doing most of the expanding for us."
As far as Gomer goes, Blahaj__blast believes it's already peaked, writing:
"We already peaked. I’ve already accepted that it’s not gonna last forever and I’m fine with that […] Despite popular belief the account isn’t an industry plant, we just got lucky to get picked up by the algorithm, there isn’t really anything too interesting besides that, it’s just silly edits with Homer Simpson’s face, I dont really know what else to say besides that."
While the memes may be slowing down for the moment, the Gomer Gimpson page is well on its way to 30,000 followers at the time of publishing this piece.
