About

Fallout: Equestria is a crossover fanfiction between the cartoon series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (MLP: FiM) and the role-playing video game series Fallout. The series has inspired numerous fanfiction alternate universes from the original and has also inspired fan-made animations, video games, and other works related to the story.

Origin

The original text of Fallout: Equestria was written by MLP fanfiction author Kkat, who uploaded the prologue and introduction to the MLP:FiM fan site Equestria Daily[1] in April 2011, followed by sporadic updates throughout the year and its completion on Christmas. The completed work consists of 620,295 words that span over 45 chapters with an introduction, prologue, epilogue and afterword.

Plot

The story is narrated in the first-person perspective of the protagonist Littlepip (shown below), a unicorn mare born in an underground bunker who sets out to wander the post-apocalyptic ruins of the MLP: FiM realm Equestria. In exploring the surface world, she discovers several threats to those living in the ruins of Equestria and uncovers the sequence of events that ultimately led to a cataclysmic war two hundred years prior.

Spin-Off Stories

The story inspired many spin-offs, side stories, and alternate universes; some of which have gathered significant fanbases of their own. Generally, only two works are regarded as canon to the universe: the original, and a sexually explicit clopfiction (written by author Pacce) which serves as a 'deleted scene' for Chapter 20.[3] One of the more notable spin-offs is Project Horizons[13], which greatly expands on the backstory of the original and as of April 2014 consists of over 1.3 million words. On April 6th, 2014, news site Equestria Daily posted that between the dates of February 17th and April 5th a total of 116 stories (38 of which were new) and 294 new chapters had been added to the Fallout Equestria universe or updated.[14]
