THE SOURCE
In 2007, a woman by the name of Fiona Wheeler appeared on the popular game show, “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire”. It was a typical night for the show. She got the average score of any contestant- few thousand dollars.
So what’s the big deal? We have BSnews to thank for it. Whether for the lolz or just to advance their website using funny stories, Fionas performance was transformed into a fantastic story of stupidity. The entire ordeal was made out to be a story of one “Kathy Evans” who answered an entirely disgraceful answer to an easy question.
“Which of the following is the largest?” A) A Peanut B) An Elephant C) The Moon D) Hey, who you calling large?
“I’m gonna say B) An Elephant, final answer.”
An article explaining the entire rouse(courtesy of Ice Cream Lover, a KNM member): "http://www.hoax-slayer.com/elephant-moon-quiz-question.shtml":URL
The fake article only: "http://willyyilly.blogspot.com/2007/02/dumbest-contestant-on-who-wants-to-be.html":URL
Conclusion?
Despite the fact that the article was fake, several similar image macros began to appear, with miscellaneous people and questions, simply for the lolz of the picture. What followed ever since have been rare but lolzy example of other photoshopped game show incidents, such as Wheel-Of-Fortune.
What can be drawn from this is that, whether true or false, ideas can spread if fueled enough by the media and the masses. This should teach us that the internet is a creature to be loved and feared. And to you, Fiona Wheeler, aka. “Kathy Evans”, hope you enjoyed your prize money. :)
