About
Blobslop refers to a genre of webcomics, predominantly seen on Twitter / X, in which artists create simplistic blob-like people to comment on common tropes in popular media. Such webcomics are often used as a redraw template for exploitable memes, as seen in trends like, SFW vs NSFW artists, Trend in Recent Art and Gets Brainwashed of that Thing. A meme trend that mocked this genre of "white blob art" is the Trend in Recent Media meme that gained traction in September 2024.
Origin
"Blobslop" is a genre of webcomics typically characterized by comics depicting amorphous characters that represent clichés and tropes in popular media. Some early notable examples of the format include Hardwork vs. NSFW Art, first posted on January 3rd, 2023.
An example of "blobslop" art that inspired exploitable redraws is Sometimes I Wonder How I Taste, first posted on June 16th, 2022.

The popularity of Fallenchungus inspired memes led to a renewed uptick in "blobslop" art in 2024, and led to the creation of the phrase. An early notable post using the phrase "blobslop" was a July 17th, 2024, tweet by X[1] user @hood_sanctuary that read, "twitter artists find their obligatory white blob slop to draw for a week." The post was in reference to a webcomic by @GloomyGarg,[2] part of the The Song / That One Part That Kinda Sucks trend.

On November 8th, 2024, Twitter / X[3] user @saintlipstick reposted a Wojak depicting an angry bearded man wearing a shirt that referenced "Blobslop," alongside various "blob-comics." The meme was posted in reaction to a comic about a "group of misfits" being in love with a "girl who only feels like herself around them."

Spread
Use of the term "blobslop" continued into 2025, with Twitter / X[4] user @fakerateater quoted a webcomic by @thew_rshipper[5] to write, "all these blobslop 'art' tweets inexplicably spawn in with 40k likes" on January 21st, 2025. The post gathered over 2,000 likes in two months.

On March 8th, 2025, Twitter[6] user @holo303_ posted a webcomic joking about blobslop-style art, gathering over 31,000 likes in two days. The comic featured the anti-blobslop Wojak, as well as artwork by @teox1759,[7] originally posted on February 26th (shown below).
