Green Day Trends As People Realize What Day It Is
Low on the list of the many, many disappointments of the previous few years is that Green Day never came out with (good) new music, as some Millennials who got through the Bush administration with American Idiot had hoped. Perhaps that's why every September, the call for "Wake Me Up When September Ends" jokes is as prevalent as ever. They're reminiscent of a simpler time, one when memes were as harmless as a simple pun on an emotive pop ballad instead of hot political takes and desperate wishes to realize 2020 has all been a dream.
Whatever the case, the autumnal answer to It's Gonna Be May began anew today, as everyone preps to wake up Billie Joe Armstrong come the end of September, as per his wishes.
Let the Green Day jokes commence

I would love it if Green Day could wake me up when September ends, but based on the past few months, September isn’t going to end for at least 8 years

Of course, not all Green Day fans were amused, as "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is about the passing of Armstrong's father, and shouldn't be joked about.
since its September now, heres ur reminder to please not joke about the green day song "wake me up when september ends" the song is about the singers father who died of cancer when he was a kid. its just not funny. pic.twitter.com/HKYLCfLlM8

Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong wrote the song Wake Me Up When September Ends about his father, who died of cancer on September 1, 1982 when Billie was just 10 years old. At his father's funeral, Billie cried, ran home and locked himself in his room. pic.twitter.com/78hVXKmspp

Unfortunately for those who dislike it, it seems there will be no shaking "Wake Me Up When September Ends" jokes, at least until Billie Joe makes good on his promise to write a song called "Shut the F*** Up When October Begins."
