It Appears People Have Found Reason To Be Mad At Beyoncé
Well, it looks like we have our first celebrity feud of 2020, even if it might be completely fabricated. After Joaquin Phoenix's name was announced as the winner for Best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture at the Golden Globes, the audience responded with a standing ovation. Well, all but one person apparently.
After viewers of the show noticed Beyoncé was still sitting after Phoenix's name was announced, many took to Twitter to debate whether or not it was intentional. Does Beyoncé really not like Joaquin? Did she really hate the film Joker? Below are some of the best reactions to this supposed drama that kicked off the new year.
First came the praise from Beyoncé fans for what they felt was a voluntary choice.

At least she clapped?

Some were eager to emphasize her power.
If Beyoncé didn't stand, you did not receive a standing ovation https://t.co/JmN0Qd9CIi

Perhaps she wanted Adam Driver to win for Marriage Story ?
beyoncé is clearly an adam driver stan https://t.co/n9ZQdAFkxK

One user wanted to know why it mattered if she wasn't competing against him in the first place.
I swear to God if it was a man who didn't stand up for Joaquin Phoenix y'all wouldn't say shit. And it's not like Beyoncé was in the same category with him so what she got to be mad about?? #goldenglobes the way she made a headline out of sitting down. Her POWER

Reasonable excuses were suggested.
Just putting it out there. MAYBE Beyoncé didn’t stand during Joaquin Phoenix’s standing ovation because her dress was massive & would have been a pain to get out of her chair with and then gather it to sit down again.Just a thought. Maybe it wasn’t a statement. #GoldenGlobes

Though some just loved the drama behind it all.
👏Here are the best twelve words ever:Beyoncé Remained Seated During the Standing Ovation for Joaquin Phoenix's 'Joker' Win

Especially because there was proof she stood for other moments during the award show.
beyonce was standing when kate mckinnon was talking about being gay but didnt stand up when joaquin phoenix won.. yes i trust her with my life

Some even wanted to mirror her energy for the rest of the year.
Beyoncé sitting during the standing ovation for Joaquin Phoenix's win is the type of energy I want to see from everyone in 2020 pic.twitter.com/EJD8uq4mHq

Then came those who were quite bothered by the beloved singer choosing to sit.
Why? You want people to sit on their high horse and not appreciate talent? Joaquin has had a pretty rough life, threw himself into that role and killed it. Dumb people loving everything Beyoncé does for the sake of it. Smh, sit down. https://t.co/9B0cV7Uyou

Some even felt like she gave the Joker a run for his money.
Beyoncé sitting during Joaquin Phoenix’s standing ovation makes her look like the real clown 🤡

Others couldn't quite understand why such a behavior would be praised.
Why is everyone praising Beyonce not standing for Joaquin Phoenix? She's classless.

Especially because it was so noticable.
Joaquin Phoenix deserved that standing ovation after winning the award for best actor… but I guess Beyoncé didn’t think so #GoldenGlobes pic.twitter.com/1h63mLWc28

Extremely noticable.
People really on here praising Beyonce for being a rude ass and not standing for Joaquin when literally everyone else was? #GoldenGlobes pic.twitter.com/Wueiy0ijRw

Her face apparently added to the debate of whether or not the moment was intentional.
Beyoncé not standing up during Joaquin Phoenix’s standing ovation with a smug grin on her face just emphasises her superiority complex 🤢🤢🤢
— Lucie (@LucieMatthews1) January 6, 2020
Perhaps the most confused reaction came from those who couldn't quite understand why this made the news in the first place.
Joaquin Phoenix just did a speech about global warming and how celebrities should start doing changes themselves personally instead of putting the responsibility in other people and then clean their hands. But somehow Beyonce not giving him a standing ovation is more important… pic.twitter.com/GyjH9mBDQa

Especially when there are so many other important things happening in 2020.
Some people really piss me off. We are close to war, Australia is burning, animals dead on the side of the roads there and people are up in arms about….Beyonce not standing for Joaquin Phoenix winning best actor? Gtfoh. #priorities #GoldenGlobes
— PATRICK COLEMAN (@Pcoleny) January 6, 2020
We look forward to their interactions for the rest of the award season.
