A new Star Wars movie means a few things: Merchandise, fan speculation and memes. If there's a new image or video that hints at anything involving a galaxy far, far away, you don't need the force to tell you that fans will be meme-ing.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is no exception. Earlier this week, at Disney's D23 expo, J.J. Abrams and his marketing wizards released a flood of new materials in the form of a new trailer and poster for the upcoming film. While some fans dove into the appearance of Dark Rey and Red Eyed C-3PO, others focused on the film's new colorful poster, which got a round of parodies much like the last time this happened.


Meme-ready fans don't need any more excuses to dunk on a Star Wars movie, but the inclusion of Emperor Palpatine aka The Senate aka the teller of The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise, makes it a certainty.
