You wake up, in the night, your naked body covered in a cold sweat.. in the night...clopping I don't know how I crossed it. I live in the city, I had never even seen a horse before. Then one day, as I was watching my little sister play... to keep her safe, in the driveway.. it was there at the end of the street, snarling and stamping the ground with it's dread hooves Before I understood what was happening, it was galloping towards me. I stood frozen, stock-still as the menace chomped down on the head of my poor sister, eating her brain like some kind of persevere apple. I wasn't really sure what to do, so l bagged her up and decided to bury her. I got awfully tired though, so I finally just dropped the poor thing down a manhole, sobbing all the while. No one would believe it was a horse. A stalking horse. A storse aMy parents are away for the weekend, but they'll be back soon. I'm typing this as quickly as can. I hear police sirens in the distance, but downstairs I hear clopping. now it's coming up.. it's so close... Oh no, I can feel it... When I would tell my mom she would just say that the street lamps outside were casting shadows through my window. Of course I never believed her. I was convinced there was a ghost in my room, watching me sleep every night. I can recall one night, though, where my fear seemed to material I was 9 at the time. I remember it perfectly. It was a hot summer night and our air conditioning had broken the morning before. Of course my dad insisted he could fix it himself, but all his attempts just caused more problems. Well at this point it was unbearably hot in the house and the whole family was ready for bed. My mother went around as I changed into pajamas, opening all the windows in the house to allow the air to circulate. She kissed me goodnight, opened my window, and left the room. She shut the door behind her, which I always hated. It made me feel like I would have nowhere to go if something did happen And that's exactly what happened ! But I knew I heard the sounds of feet scuffing outside I knew my door. They got louder as they approached. At this point I was nearly in tears. I couldn't handle the impending feeling of terror. It was fantastic and I was nice and relaxed and ready for a nap when I got home. I pulled into the driveway sometime in the early morning, grabbed all my bags, and fumbled with my keys at my door. When I got inside, everything seemed alright for the most part. I sat my bags down on my couch and kicked off my shoes. I was about to plop down and turn on the TV when I heard what sounded like someone shifting around in my bedroom down the hall. My door was locked when I came in so I wasn't too worried. During the summer of 2003, events in the northeastern United States involving a strange, humanlike creature sparked brief local media interest before an apparent blackout was enacted. Little or no information was left intact, as most online and written accounts of the creature were Primarily focused in rural New York state, self proclaimed witnesses tolod stories of thier enounters with a creature of unkown origin. Emotions ranged from extremely traumatic levels of fright and discomfort, to an almost childike sense of playfulness and curiosity. While their published versions are no longer on record, the memories remained powerful. Several of the involved parties began looking for answers that year In early 2006, the collaboration had accumulated nearly two dozern documents dating between the 12th century and present day, spanning 4 continents. In almost all cases, the stories were identical. I've been in contact with a member of this group and was able to get some exceprts from their upco ming book. I appologized and told him I though he got out of bed. When he turned to face me, he gasped and pulled his feet up from the end of the bed so quickly his knee almost knocked me out of the bed. He then grabbed me and said nothing After adjusting to the dark for a half second, I was able to see what caused the strange reaction. At the foot of the bed, sitting and facing away from us, there was what appeared to be a naked man, or a large hairless dog of some sort. It's body position was disturbing and unnatural, as if it had been hit by a car or something. For some reason, I was not instantly frightened by it, but more concerned as to its condition. At this point I was somewhat under the assumption that we were supposed to My husband was peering over his arm and knee, tucked into the fetal position, occasionally glancing at me before returning to the creature In a flurry of motion, the creature scrambled around the side of the bed and then crawled quickly in a flailing sort of motion right along the bed until it was less than a foot from my husband's face. The creature was completely silent for about 30 seconds (or probably closer to 5, it just seemed like a while) just looking at my husband. The creature then placed its hand on his knee and ran into the hallway, leading to the kids' rooms. I screamed and ran for the lightswitch, planning to stop him before he hurt my children. When I got to the hallway, the light from the bedroom was enough to see it crouching and hunched over about 20 feet away. He turned around and looked directly at me, covered in blood. I flipped the on er The creature ran down the stairs while my husband and I rushed to help our daughter. She was very badly injured and spoke only once more in her short life. After we decided to return home, I began looking for answers myself. I eventualy located a man in the next town over who had a similar story. We got in contact and began talking about our experiences. He knew of two other people in New York who had seen the creature we now referred to as the Rake It took the four of us about two solid years of hunting on the internet and writing letters to come up with a small collection of what we believe to be accounts of the Rake. None of them gave any details, history or follow up One journal had an entry involving the creature in its first 3 pages, and never mentioned it again. A ship's log explained nothing of the encounter saying only that they were told to leave by the Rake. That was the last en in the log There were, however, many instances where the creature's visit was one of a series of visits with the same person. Multiple people also mentioned being spoken to, my daughter included. This led us to wonder if the Rake had visited any of us before our last encounter I set up a digital recorder near my bed and left it running all night, every night, for two weeks. I would tediously scan through the sounds of me rolling around in my bed each day when I woke up. By the end of the second week, I was quite used to the occasional sound of sleep while blurring through the recording at 8 times the normal speed. (This still took On the first day of the third week, I thought I heard something different. What I found was a shrill voice. It was the Rake. I can't listen to it long enough to even begin to transcribe it. I haven't let anyone listen to it yet. It all began after I got a tape of some old颻edd, & eddy episodes from my buddy, it was his favorite show when he was little but decided to give his recorded episodes to his 2 year old cousin, į was hanging out in his living room and he was babysitting her one afternoon, we were just watching some TV and having a couple beers when all of a sudden his little cousin runs out of the room screaming and crying like a banshee, we both got up and ran over to her, thinking she was injured in some way only to find out that there wasn't a scratch on her, after a few minutes she finally calm down enough to tell us that she thought "eddy came to get her" we simply looked at each other and thought she fell asleep and hada nightmare or something, į went to the room to check it out, only to see the old ed, edd, & eddy cartoons my buddy recorded years ago playing on the TV t was around this time that my buddy's sister came to pick up her daughter, who was still undeniably frightened from her "bad dream" his sister was very worried and began fighting with my buddy about not keeping an eye on her, i figured this was my queue to leave but before i left į asked him if į could borrow the tape to see if anything on it could have scared her like that, he assured me that there was nothing on the tape but let me take it because it was obviously not wanted by his little cousin A couple days past by and finally got a chance to sit down and watch the tape, į had just got off work and my fiancée was at her mother's house for a couple days so j had time to kill, i popped in the tape and let it rewind to the beginning, while it was rewinding i got up and made a quick TV dinner, when i came back it had already started playing everything seemed fine as the eds were doing their usual wacky things trying all so hard to achieve the coveted jawbreaker like every episode, į sat and watched as waves of nostalgia hit me over and over, i have to admit į understand why i loved this show when į was a kid as well, an adult less world overrun by kids where they could build and do anything they desired, seemed continued to watch episode after episode, even watched the commercials of old just for extra nostalgia kick. į had to admit į was enjoying this little glimpse of the past, it had me glued to the screen, but al these fun happy memories suddenly vanished when something strange happened, during the middle of one of the episodes double D in mid-sentence started talking backwards for about 10 seconds, then continued on with his sentence, į grabbed the remote and tried to rewind it, only to find out that the mashing of the rewind button did nothing, the tape continued to play forward, į got out of my seat and pressed the rewind button on the VCR, still nothing happened the tape played onwards. į stood up and watched the eds on the screen nothing seemed out of the ordinary, į was slightly shook from the inability to rewind but į swallowed the feeling and sat back down and watched as the cartoon rolled on a few minutes after į sat down, eddy had finally had gotten his jawbreaker which he had been working the whole episode to achieve, he quickly threw the giant over-sized candy in his mouth and enjoyed the fruits of his labour, when suddenly he froze in place and looked dead at the screen, he made a gulping sound as the iawbreaker moved from the inside of his cheek the center of his throat, the screen started to twist turned ing purple bloodshot and red, a high pitched ringing slowly faded into the entire room as while eddy s p rapidl thev ran down t looked almost real.. My friends and I heard of this "cool" graveyard that was popular with the local teens aptly called "Gates of Hell," which is in Elizabethtown. This place has such a big reputation, that word of it was floating around Louisville, about an hour north, where we lived. I finally convinced three of my friends, Jen, Kayla, and Alex, to come after a few hours of nagging. My one stipulation was that I really wanted to go on a full moon. Looking at a calendar, I realized that a full moon was almost a month away, but a new moon was going to be that Thursday, so I settled for that. That was my mistake After three intense days of waiting, it was finally Thursday. I couldn't contain my excitement, and I couldn't find a way to pass the time. Somehow, I managed to wait until dark before we left. We stopped at a gas station and I topped off my little Chevy Malibu, grabbed a few snacks, and we were on our way An hour later, we'd reached Elizabethtown. It was quaint, and little, and most definitely a boring place to call home. There was no way that this little boring town could hold something as evil as "Gates of Hell. Oh, how I was wrong We drove through town and finally got to St. John's Road, the street that has the graveyard at the very end. Other than the thick fog that randomly appeared and disappeared (a common thing in Kentucky, with all of its hills) I still couldn't find anything creepy yet, so I was calm. Needless to say, I was the only one that was. Jen was chain smoking (her coping mechanism, I'd discovered), Kayla was cursing my existence, and Alex was oddly quiet, but I could see that his whole body was shaking Now, if you've never been on St. John's Road, it's pretty much like any country road for a while. It's two lanes, surrounded by forest and occasional houses. But, near the very end, it becomes one lane. There were still a few sparse homes, so I felt like we were still in civilization, but then the road became gravel, the road narrower and the forest more oppressing, blocking out the whole sky. That's when I first felt the panic. I kept driving for what felt like forever down the dark gravel road. It felt like it was longer than all of the rest of St. John's Road, though Google Maps seems to think otherwise. All three of my friends were about beside themselves with fear now, so I tried to reassure them that we'd be fine and laugh about it the next day. I wish t were true After what seemed like every bit of half an hour, we arrived at almost exactly midnight. At first, none of us wanted to get out, which p----- me off because it took a quarter of a tank of gas to get there. Finally, I got the nerve up to get out of the car with my lame little hand-crank flashlight, but I decided to save its juice and just use the light from my headlights. I pleaded with my friends to get out, and after a while, they did. We wandered around the outskirts of the graveyard and realized that it was actually kind of relaxing, which we found odd, considering we were in a creepy graveyard in the middle of nowhere at midnight. I ran out into the graves because I wanted to see some of the dates. I trudged through the thorny weeds, glad that I had worn jeans, and I saw that most of the graves were small and for children. It sent a chill up my spine. I looked at dates on some of the bigger and less worn ones. 1887, 1804, 1839. The only thing I could say was "Wow." I had no idea that it was this old. My friends had joined me, and they, too were taken aback. I looked out into the distance, and I saw a lone tree in the clearing. I pointed it out, and Jen, the expert on local lore (and the one who told me of this graveyard in the first place), told me that the tree was the "Lynch Tree," where they had apparently lynched a bunch of Confederate deserters back in the day. For some reason, I felt compelled to go touch it. Kayla and Alex would have none of it, but Jen came with me. I ran ahead and got to the tree first, and I began to look around it. Then something tapped me on my shoulder. I looked, but there was no one there, and Jen was still about fifteen feet behind me. Then it happened. The lights of my car shut off, leaving us in complete darkness. The laughter came from all around us. Childrens laughter. I heard a blood-curling scream from Kayla. I frantically grabbed the flashlight from my pocket and turned it on. The light was weak, but it was enough to see the silhouette of a little girl run out of the beam. I was so scared, I couldn't even move, so I decided so shine my light around and see if I could find my friends. I couldn't. Not even Jen. I called out to them, but there was silence. I called again, just in case maybe I hadn't heard them. A little boy's voice coming from right behind me said "They're not here anymore I ran to my car. I ran faster than I had ever ran in my life. I tripped over a few graves, even knocking over a small obelisk, but I was determined not to fall, and I kept going. The flashlight died just as I reached my car and dove in, but the car wouldn't start--the battery in it had died, too. Of course. So, I resorted to cowering in fear in the drivers seat. Slowly, my eyes adjusted to the lack of light, and I saw them. The faces of little dead children. Surrounding my car. I wasn't religious, but I shut my eyes as tight as I possibly could and began to feverishly pray. To who, I don't know, but I was praying After what seemed like forever, the sky lightened and the sun finally began to rise, and for the first time since the ordeal began, I felt safe. My battery was still dead, so I decided to get out and walk to the nearest house to see if I could get a jump and call the police (if they'd even believe me). I knew it was going to be a long walk, because it took half an hour driving, so I decidedt pace myself. It only took 10 minutes. Walking That was a month ago. I've finally stopped having the nightmares, so I decided to sit down and tell my story en, Kayla, and Alex are still missing, and, though the police don't believe me, I know why. It's because they're ere anymore

My friends and I heard of this "cool" graveyard that was popular with the local teens aptly called "Gates of Hell," which is in Elizabethtown. This place has such a big reputation, that word of it was floating around Louisville, about an hour north, where we lived. I finally convinced three of my friends, Jen, Kayla, and Alex, to come after a few hours of nagging. My one stipulation was that I really wanted to go on a full moon. Looking at a calendar, I realized that a full moon was almost a month away, but a new moon was going to be that Thursday, so I settled for that. That was my mistake After three intense days of waiting, it was finally Thursday. I couldn't contain my excitement, and I couldn't find a way to pass the time. Somehow, I managed to wait until dark before we left. We stopped at a gas station and I topped off my little Chevy Malibu, grabbed a few snacks, and we were on our way An hour later, we'd reached Elizabethtown. It was quaint, and little, and most definitely a boring place to call home. There was no way that this little boring town could hold something as evil as "Gates of Hell.
