A webcomic showing four people worshipping different kinds of "gods": a Marxist, a Darwinist, an anarcho-capitalist and a vain girl caring excessively about her appearance. This social criticism conveys that not only religious people worship gods, but everyone has some object of reverence, be it one's political or philosophical views or even oneself.

The image was originally published in Portuguese by Brazilian webcomic artist Aristides Ernesto on his Facebook page Desenhista que Pensa ("The Thinking Drawer") on August 9, 2016. Ernesto, a devout Christian, is famous for the political and religious criticism on his art. His comics are supportive of intelligent design and conservatism and frequently criticize LGBT advocates, feminists, the pro-life, politicians of the Brazilian left, among others.

The webcomics of Desenhista que Pensa are also one of the most famous memes in Brazil. Many consider Ernesto's criticism exaggerated or extremist and make nonsensical, absurdist memes based on it, often referencing popular culture.

At some point after its original publication, the image was translated to English and began spreading as a meme, usually with with the same nonsensical nature.
