Jodie'd – Slang terminology : suddenly broken up with, especially via text, social media, IM, email, or any means that does not involving actual speaking. The term was coined on Long Island between 2004-2006 and has since spread all the way to the west coast, and has just recently begun to see some usage overseas.
Jodie, legend has it, was a beautiful and irresistible woman who attracted almost every man who was lucky enough to cast his eyes upon her. She grew up on Long Island, and even as a young girl would tease the little boys in her neighborhood, purely for her own amusement. As she grew up she became more interested in men and equally interested in teasing them for her own amusement. She started dating at an early age, which also meant she started ditching guys at an early age as well. Text messages, emails, IMs, anything but in person or over the phone, she quietly and efficiently honed her skill of the non-confrontational breakup until she was a connoisseur of her craft. As years passed her tally grew steadily until one day she had finally discovered what she believed was true love. She had no intention of breaking up with this one, as she thought he was indeed 'the one', the one she would marry; the one with whom she would spend the rest of her living years. They dated for months, their relationship growing stronger with each passing day, destined for the long term bliss that only soul mates knew and understood….or so it seemed. On the evening of her 10 year high school reunion her boyfriend was running late. Jodie had an uneasy feeling about this night for some reason. She noticed the red facebook notification from across the room and hurried over to see who it was, and saw only a simple one line message from her beloved…."check my status". Upon checking his status her knees became weak and buckled, throwing her to the porcelain kitchen floor. "John Doe is no longer in a relationship" read the status. She had been Jodie'd (John Doe is not the real name of the man in this story).
Example:
"So whatever happened to that girl you were seeing?"
"Well, I thought things were going okay until out of the blue she Jodie'd me."
"No way, that's cold, man."
or:
"Jim is starting to act like a dick, I think I might break up with him" (starts texting)
"Wait, you're not gonna Jodie him are you? You guys have been going out for months!"
That's pretty much it. It's starting to catch on here on Long Island.
