About

Men Prefer Debt-free Virgins Without Tattoos is an article written by a female Christian blogger in July of 2018 that went viral and was mocked online for its specificity and shaming of women.

Origin

On July 16th, 2018, blogger Lori Alexander of The Transformed Wife published "Men Prefer Debt-free Virgins Without Tattoos."[1] In the article, Alexander argues that Jesus Christ looks down upon debt and values sexual purity, and as one of the primary sources of debt is going to college, she argues that Christian women should not go to college to avoid debt. The majority of the article features quotes from several commenters who claim college makes women less subservient to their husbands and less prepared for being a good Christian wife, which Alexander supplements with her own commentary. She also says women should not have tattoos, though there is no commentary from quoted commenters regarding tattoos.

Spread

The article went viral on Facebook,[2] gaining over 47,000 likes and reactions, 55,000 comments, and 43,000 shares. On Twitter, the post spread thanks to screenshots from @kinley666 which gained over 1,700 retweets and 6,500 likes (shown below).
