Overview
Mugsy Pippin, also known simply as Mugsy's School is an indie horror animated cartoon parodying and based on educational animated cartoons from the 1990s and 2000s. The cartoon features a crudely animated character named Mugsy who attempts to stop the viewer from watching the video by asking them to learn cartoon cliches.
History
On June 25th, 2018, the independent cartoon creator Hentai Nokami released Mugsy Pippin for free on YouTube.
In the show's description, Nokami described the animated cartoon:
"Inspired by creepy/bad animated cartoons from the 2000s (The Buzz on Maggie, The X's, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi), this cartoon starts out seemingly innocent enough, but it quickly becomes clear that this isn't animated. Watch all 7 of the episodes and watch the videos, all while watching Mugsy Pippin. Mugsy has many friends in the school that will ruin your progress and put you at risk of being caught, so learn how each character works and how you can avoid their attention. Look up and watch scenes to your advantage. Oh, and finally, try not to get any nightmares … Each nightmare makes Mugsy angrier…
That day, he uploaded, "It's finally finished… Mugsy Pippin is now available to watch on YouTube! Be warned, it's really bad. Hentai Nokami." The video (shown below) received more than 50 uploads and 310 likes in two months.
Reception
The cartoon was created for Windows Movie Maker, a video creator in which users attempt to create the most self-aware cartoon possible. Mugsy Pippin came in 2nd place with 39 ratings and a score of 5. Following the release, the cartoon received a 4.8 rating on YouTube.
On June 26th, the video website Dailymotion gave Mugsy Pippin a positive review. They wrote, "The titular Mugsy will stalk you throughout the neighborhood, creepily shooting the laser against her hand. If she finds you, you get a nightmare and end credits. Mugsy Pippin isn’t that deep, but I loved both its commitment to the joke of making fun of bad animated cartoons and how well it pivots from humor to horror. It’s free on YouTube, and probably would be fun to prank your friends with."
On July 1st, 2018, YouTuber Nigel Ratburn published a new video of the lost unsold tv cartoon. The video (shown below) received more than 1.2 million views in 24 hours.
