And halfway through the test? A text came in. His phone buzzed, so he got kicked out. Now he'll wait 2 months to retake it. Here's the kicker: I could've micromanaged every detail. Instead, I stepped back. Let him figure it out. Why? Because leadership isn't always about control. Sometimes, it's about holding space. It's about letting others make choices (even bad ones), so they can own the consequences and learn. Did it hurt to watch? Oh yes. Was it necessary? Absolutely. Next time? He'll do better. P.S. Do you let people learn from their mistakes?
