Porting a wireframe and porting a full model are different things. 100% identical. People claiming no new modelling was required - Joe shut down that misinformation. Iwata was the real reason Pokemon still exists

I've had this idea in my head for some time now, like maybe a year or so, about what the flying f--- happened to Gamefreak this past decade, and after doing some research, I think I've found one of the biggest answers. Satoru Iwata. The story's been told a million times over at this point, but just a refresher: when G/S were still in development, Gamefreak were in a panic because they wanted to include kanto, but because they knew jack s--- about compression, it was basically impossible for them. Enter Iwata, who single-handedly included practically ALL of kanto, save a few areas due to limitations at the time, because he know more about GB cartridge compression than the entire staff working on the games. Huh. With that in mind, I looked up lwata's involvement in the entire main series of games, and this is what I found. Mr lwata is credited as: Special Thanks - Red/Blue, Gold/Silver Producer-Crystal Executive Producer - R/S/E, FR/LG, D/P/PT, HG/SS, B/W, B2/W2 lwata had a hand in every single game until gen 6 with X and Y in 2013, which was around the time lwata started having health issues with his bile duct, which sadly took his life in 2015. This was the beginning of the end, and it's been all downhill from here. Without lwata, Gamefreak is now operating similarly to their early gen 1 and 2 days, and for those who know how those games are coded, that is nothing short of terrifying.

Real answer from their meeting minutes per a friend of mine who saw them, and has been accurate about every Nintendo related thing for years now (I was saying the next games would be named Sword and Shield long before that name was publicly known, if you want that as proof I even have time stamped messages to games media people of it) is they just f----- up the model and animation importer, and didn't have the manpower with the right knowledge to fix it in time to meet the set release date. So instead they had to put tons of people, including outside help (this is where the -300 people worked on Sw&Sh number comes from) on recreating art assets and getting their busted ass engine to work, since Gamefreak f------ up the importer is actually indicative of their overall software engineering competency right now. Edit: Their current plan is to try to salvage Sword and Shield by not admitting this, as it would be an admission that this was a failed gen, and then having a big surprise announcement of the full dex in the following game/gen with the fixed importer on hand. Their story will be that they listened to feedback and now realize how important the full dex is, while not admitting how incompetent the actual in house Gamefreak devs are to save face; of which less than 80 of them actually worked on Sword and Shield until recently, many of them off working on Town (btw Town development wasn't going well either, there's just large gaps of software engineering knowledge there) until they realized the importer was totally busted and un-salvageable in time. Before anyone tells me Masuda said future gens won't have the full dex, he was in those meeting minutes too, right down to that statement being planned as part of how they're going to handle this PR shitstorm.

I'm legitimately considering canceling my preorder and buying Planet Zoo instead, and if I keep it, it'll be 100% stubbornness rather than any practical sense. bogleech Everyone criticizing this game is getting lumped into "toxic fans" right now and it sucks because as someone who has defended EVERY SINGLE pokemon game up to now I am absolutely heartbroken by how this one turned out. And I already had an issue with how short and how easy the main games were getting. The excuse that they're primarily for kids does not hold up at all - I slogged through some INTENSE rpg's as a very small child and every moment was exciting. Red/Blue and Gold/Silver were exciting. I actually had to strategize and grind and really fight to get past some gyms, but early players are one-shotting almost every fight in this one even if they barely leveled up. The reason all this stuff stands out is because they cut more than half of all pokemon with the insistence it was to make a bigger, better game than usual, and instead the total content seems to be slightly less than the last 3DS games Some say the team must be under-staffed and overworked, but that's only more reason to be p----- off, because this is the single most profitable media franchise in the entire world. Someone, somewhere on the Gamefreak to Nintendo lad der could easily afford to get them more staff, a lot more staff, and isn't doing so. At the very least, they shouldn't have been forced to churn out a new game this quickly. 4-5 whole years would be a perfectly acceptable wait for something as polished and content-loaded as, say, the Smash games.
