They have their hooks and claws in social media and the willingness to sling as many barbs and withering bon mots as possible to sell it. We won't win this argument, because gamers don't have home advantage on that turf Simply put, we aren't in this to win the Battle of Public Opinion. We're in this to win the War of Consumer Attrition. Here's a list of things we need to stop doing: *Stop apologizing or making excuses for trolls. I know if my marketing head comes to me from one of my commercial groups and says "someone says we are advertising with a bunch of people that are insulting our main customer demographic" my response will be "I don't really care. How are our CPMs etc etc' However if someone comes in and says "a representative of a demographic emailed me and informed me we are working with a distribution network that puts our ads on websites that harass said demographic...and I have visual proof said demo is trending on twitter with over 2M mentions"...well at that point l tear our google adsense rep a new a------ and rightfully so. The power of gamergate is really very simple; a quantitatively verifiable and significant demographic that hits key and core groups of 18-30 year old consumers of all races, genders, and nationalities. That is the simple fact. The pen is mightier than the sword, but only when it is signing checks. Speak with the proof of your aggregate dollars and I think you will find the impact is exponentially increased. While I don't support doxxing and all of that, l'm also not a moron(one doesn't become successful through stupidity or insular, monochromatic ideology), and l know that gamergate is better than most groups, and more honest and heartbreakingly true than most as well. lt is a shame that so many well meaning people have been harassed, on both sides of the aisle.
