I've been lurking since the beginning, even in/v/, and I finally made an account just to post some advice for the many #gamergate supporters. Basically lwork in a variety of different industries because l'm...let's just say well off. One of those industries is advertising - many of my friends are models, agents, and advertising/marketing production managers. A very interesting new trend these days in castings is, "how many instagram/twitter/fb followers or mentions do you have?" For example, DNA in NY is starting to force implementation of dedicated instagram and twitter managers - even for top 50 earners. The power of numbers in social media is now king Now, l've seen a lot of thee-mails going out to advertisers and one thing that should always, always be included is very simple but makes your efforts to interdict advertising dollars a very, very simple sell. You need to include the topsy information on gamergate. I know if my marketing head comes to me from one of my commercial groups and says "someone says we are advertising with a bunch of people that are insulting our main customer demographic" my response will be "I don't really care. How are our CPMs etc etc' However if someone comes in and says "a representative of a demographic emailed me and informed me we are working with a distribution network that puts our ads on websites that harass said demographic...and I have visual proof said demo is trending on twitter with over 2M mentions"...well at that point l tear our google adsense rep a new a------ and rightfully so. The power of gamergate is really very simple; a quantitatively verifiable and significant demographic that hits key and core groups of 18-30 year old consumers of all races, genders, and nationalities. That is the simple fact. The pen is mightier than the sword, but only when it is signing checks. Speak with the proof of your aggregate dollars and I think you will find the impact is exponentially increased. While I don't support doxxing and all of that, l'm also not a moron(one doesn't become successful through stupidity or insular, monochromatic ideology), and l know that gamergate is better than most groups, and more honest and heartbreakingly true than most as well. lt is a shame that so many well meaning people have been harassed, on both sides of the aisle. Bonus: I know people at gawker and they are not only insufferable but constantly trying to get invited to parties. They also consistently try to use "l work at gawker" to pick up girls, which is sad, and mind blowingly desperate. These are your opponents. They are not insurmountable. Wolverines

Author has 304 answers and 740.1K answer views. 5y Not that I care that much either way, but it did expose a lot of corrupt game developers and game journalists. X Journalists would make claims of people like Anita Sarkeesian "playing video games all her life" when she openly admitted many times she is not a gamer and only starter recently (when it wasn't for an interview). Various developers trading sex or money for good reviews got exposed, journalists who accepted got exposed. People became a bit more critical about supporting a game just because the developer has a victim complex stating tat their game could have only failed because of sexism, instead of their own poor developing skills. What really sealed the deal was opposition often faking their own harassment. Anita sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn have been caught multiple times screenshotting "harassment" while showing that the harrasser's account name in the login. Or when someone called the police to help Sarkeesian against a "very real threat" she was posting about, only for police to find the harasser's messages were coming from her IP address.
