Disney+ Day Quietly Gets Overshadowed By Queen Elizabeth II's Death As Memers Take Notice Online
September 8th is known as "Disney+ Day," a day where many new shows, movies and other series hit the streaming platform while also teasing upcoming content for the following year. Today's event, however, was largely overshadowed by the massively viral news of Queen Elizabeth II's death, though many think perhaps that was for the better.
As pointed out by social media users upon their second watch of Thor: Love and Thunder (which hit the platform earlier today), the movie doesn't quite look as good online as it did in theaters, and there appears to be a blatant patch done to it with changes made to the recently memed scene Axl's Apparition.

As word of the Queen of England dying spread online throughout the afternoon, some fans of Disney were left bewildered at the news, leaving many announcements that on their own would have been an entire reason to get hyped to fall by the wayside, namely the star of the smash hit Squid Game, Lee Jung-Jae, getting cast as the lead in an upcoming Star Wars project, much to the delight of hundreds.

I can’t believe the Queen died on Disney Plus Day.

While Disney's special announcement day mostly fell to the wayside and went unnoticed, at least the event proved memeable material for creators who were already having a field day with memes about Queen Elizabeth II to begin with.
