Instagram To Experiment With Allowing NFT Owners To Post Their Tokens
NFT owners will soon be able to post their NFTs on Instagram, according to a recent video by Instagram head Adam Mosseri. Of course, NFT owners and basically anyone who feels like it have been posting pictures of NFTs ever since the cryptocurrency craze built up steam over the past two years, but this is different, Instagram assures.
NFTs on Instagram 🎉
This week we’re beginning to test digital collectibles with a handful of US creators and collectors who will be able to share NFTs on Instagram. There will be no fees associated with posting or sharing a digital collectible on IG.

While Mosseri leads by saying NFT owners will be able to "share" their NFTs on Instagram, the reality is more that Instagram is implementing some features to accommodate NFT users, like how Twitter gave NFT owners the option for hexagonal profile pictures. On Instagram, clicking an NFT will bring up information about the owner and creator of the NFT, similar to how tapping a regular picture will bring up the people tagged in the picture.
Initially, the project will start small in order for Instagram to work out the kinks with a small group of NFT owners and creators.
"I want to acknowledge upfront that NFTs and blockchain technologies and Web3 more broadly are all about distributing trust, distributing power," Mosseri said. "But Instagram is fundamentally a centralized platform, so there’s a tension there." He added that he hopes Instagram's way of embracing the Web3 community will help bring the concept of NFTs to a broader audience.
The crypto community seemed generally enthused about Instagram integrating NFTs despite the tension Mosseri alluded to in his video.

welp – @instagram is about to support NFTs. The slow push toward mainstream adoption is here… I honestly feel like this move is one of, if not the biggest move toward NFT music. You ready anon?

Well looks like Zuckerberg listened to me
Instagram NFT integration looks exactly like what I suggested about having a full on new tab for NFTs right where you’re posts are.
I commend Instagram for this, good job. pic.twitter.com/nDP0fgLK4u— MASON VERSLUIS 🏆 (@MasonVersluis) May 9, 2022
"There are a lot of ways for creators to make money, but a lot of them are unpredictable and changing rapidly," Mosseri said. On a related note, multiple news outlets have reported that the NFT market has "collapsed" in recent weeks.
