The SAG Awards Generated A Slew Of Strange Memes Featuring Salma Hayek Andrew Garfield And More
The Screen Actors’ Guild Awards last night brought together actors and actresses from all over to receive awards, with many finding themselves in awkward situations that became fodder for today’s memes following the ceremonies.

The internet, as it does with most award shows each year they come around (like Winona Ryder in 2017), identified several moments that were deemed meme-worthy, involving stars posing in odd ways and responding strangely to the events around them.
There was Jeremy Strong and Nicholas Braun from the HBO series Succession chilling out with an indiscernible expression on their faces, and the emotional rollercoaster Dasha Nekrasova (also from Succession) seemed to go through while hearing a speech about the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
i mean does this not have very strong meme potential? #SAGAwards pic.twitter.com/cJCJExo6Bm

Perhaps the most memeable incident of the night was Salma Hayek awkwardly waiting for Michael Keaton to show up an accept his trophy. Keaton was reportedly in the restroom as the award was announced, leaving Hayek, the presenter of his award, standing up there for longer than would be comfortable for anybody — subsequently spawning perhaps the most memed moment of the award show.

In other meme-related news, Andrew Garfield went into detail about the process behind the Spider-Man Pointing At Spider-Man meme recreation from the set of Spiderman No Way Home, which dropped last week, saying the photo was taken even before shooting began. Garfield, however, kept mum on the question of which of the three Spider-Men wore a prosthetic butt during filming … a bit of tea that his co-star Tom Holland spilled last week as well.

Despite its capacity to generate memes, however, the yearly telecast of the SAG awards (like most other awards shows) has lost viewers every year for the past five years. In 2021, fewer than a million people tuned in. The numbers for 2022 haven’t come out yet.
