About

Spider-man: No Way Home is an upcoming Spider-man film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe set to be released December 17th, 2021. The film centers around Peter Parker (Tom Holland) wishing to make his identity as Spider-man a secret again. He enlists the help of Dr. Strange to accomplish this, but the spell causes issues with the fabric of space and time, allowing villains from previous Spider-man films, such as Doc Ock (Alfred Molina) and Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) to enter reality. The film has seen much hype before its release, with speculation that previous Spider-man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield could appear in the film.

History

Spider-man: No Way Home began filming in October of 2020 and wrapped in March of 2021.[1] Alfred Molina confirmed his involvement in the film in December of 2020.[2] At the time, rumors swirled that actors from the Sam Raimi Spider-man films and The Amazing Spider-man films could make an appearance in the film. As of August 2021, known returning actors include Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin and Jaime Foxx as Electro. Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and Andrew Garfield have been rumored to be making appearances but that is yet to be confirmed.[3]

First Trailer

On August 23rd, 2021, Sony released the first trailer for the film. The trailer explains the film's premise, teases the return of Green Goblin, and reveals Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus. It received over 36.6 million views on Twitter 24 hours after it was released. Prior to the trailer's release, a copy leaked online.[4]

Online Presence

The release of the film's trailer trended on Twitter[5] for two days. It continued to fuel fan speculation as to which actors might return in the film. The trailer also gained over 8,300 points in Reddit's /r/MarvelStudios.[7] Some fans theorized that Doctor Octopus saying "Hello, Peter" in the trailer was confirmation that Tobey Maguire was in the film, as his character would not recognize Tom Holland as Peter Parker.[6]
