White House Press Secretary Stresses There Is 'No Indication Of Aliens' Despite Recent UFOs, Sparking Memes
In a press conference given on Monday, White House officials assured journalists that the unidentified flying objects shot down over the United States and Canada in the last few days are not aliens. However, the White House remains unable or unwilling to identify them and provide additional details.
Naturally, this has led to some speculating the opposite.
this is 100% the opening scene of a movie about aliens or other extraterrestrial activity https://t.co/CXjDgOz6Tz

As John Kirby, National Security Advisor explained, the U.S. and Canada have been watching the skies more closely after the Chinese spy balloon arc popped off last week. This may explain why these UFOs have been spotted. Online, the aggressive response of the government to UFOs over Lake Huron and in Alaska has led to many jokes, memes and commentaries.

It's possible that these unidentified flying objects belong to a rival testing out a weapon or conducting surveillance (perhaps China), which is worrying to many in its own way. This may explain why the response of the military has been to shoot all of them down.
However, many online were skeptical of the Biden administration's claims, producing some alternative theories of their own in recent days.

No need to be afraid of Aliens, presumably because the intergalactic diplomatic talks are going well, I assume. https://t.co/jV676Raz3L

Others wondered what the consequences of an encounter with extraterrestrials might look like.

Many online also used the news of possible (but debunked) alien activity to discuss very earthly issues in the world, such as the disastrous train derailment in Ohio.

There was a period of time when the government called these things spotted in the skies "unidentified aerial phenomena," or UAPs, possibly to avoid using the "UFO" label. But now, it appears as if the UFO label has stuck. There remains, however, no evidence of alien activity so far.
