Cumtown, Alaska, also known as the Cumtown, Alaska UFO, refers to an imagined town in the American state of Alaska where many Twitter users claimed that the February 2023 Unidentified Aircraft in Alaska was shot down by an F-22 fighter jet. "Cumtown" refers to the Cum Town podcast, which was trending on Twitter alongside the Alaska UFO in February 2023, resulting in an unfounded association between the two and multiple memes thereafter about the imaginary town.

Origin

At around 5 p.m. EST on February 10th, 2023, Twitter^[1] user achtung_maybe tweeted a screenshot of Twitter's "Trending" tab, showing that the word "Alaska" was trending above the word "Cumtown." Twitter user achtung_maybe wrote, "my thoughts and prayers are with the people of cumtown, alaska," earning over 20 likes in one day (shown below).

Spread

The concept was amplified by others as Twitter's "Trending" tab remained on the words "Alaska" and "Cumtown" going into the morning of February 11th, 2023. For instance, on February 10th, Twitter^[2] user ButtBallsMcgoo tweeted a photoshopped map of Alaska that replaced the town of "Chase" with "Cumtown," earning over 340 likes in less than a day (shown below, left). On February 11th, Twitter^[3] user DaleFromDaFlock tweeted, "The United States shot down a UFO over Cumtown, Alaska today, 69 days before 4/20. The simulation controllers are literally turning us into a meme in 2023," earning roughly 5,300 likes in less than a day (shown below, right).

Meme creators on Twitter continued to perpetuate the concept, gaining more engagement as time went on.
